Kathy Sledge has been a defining voice in disco and soul since her teens. As the original lead singer of Sister Sledge, she helped shape one of the most enduring catalogues in pop, fronting classics including ‘We Are Family’ and ‘He’s The Greatest Dancer.’
Born in Philadelphia, she scored her first international hit at just 13 and soon after performed at the historic Zaire 74 festival during the “Rumble in the Jungle” weekend. Her partnership with Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards led to the platinum-selling We Are Family album, a record whose title track was later added to the Library of Congress National Recording Registry.
Over the decades, Sledge has continued to carry those songs to major stages worldwide, from presidential inaugurations to collaborations with Horse Meat Disco and appearances across global club culture. With new single ‘Promise Me’ now out and fresh projects underway, Sister Sledge arrives at KOKO to celebrate a phenomenal career. Expect a night rooted in soul, rhythm and songs that urge you to move your feet.
